Group of Friends of Corrections
in Peace Operations

The Group of Friends of Corrections in Peace Operations provides advice and support to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations on corrections issues relating to peace operations. We are an international platform for United Nations Member States and their correctional services to connect on correctional policies, practices, and activities with a focus on corrections components of peace operations.

As a Group we strive to:

• Increase awareness of the importance of corrections in peace operations among Member States and United Nations legislative bodies
• Deploy and train high-calibre corrections personnel to United Nations peace operations
• Raise the importance of women correctional officers in peace operations activities
• Promote innovative approaches to corrections programming in peace operations
• Increase knowledge of gender issues and human rights for prisoners
